News

As you might remember in July, ubium powered up an interactive lottery for Illusion 2014.

In that time ubium started as well its collaboration with Jonna, from Mekastamo, who has been working with some videos for ubium. The first video to be released from her work is this one. She is doing an excellent work!!!!

It is amazing how information that hangs on a wall can be transformed into a playful carrier of knowledge!! This can be done everywhere, in this seminar, in a museum or gallery as well as in a rock festival. The key factor is to harmonize the activity with the context!!! Everything is possible! :)

Without more words, here some memories from the interactive lotto at Illusion 2014:

Thank you to all the people involved in this project: organizers of the event, companies in the region, players of our lotto, proof reader, external reviewers of the video and all the team who have worked hard to make this happen!!!

Ubium was at the ICEE conference in Helsinki which was a GREAT EVENT!!!

National Museum of Finland

Unquestionably, if you are interested in the world of museums, join the ICOM community is smart. There is much to learn and listen from the community.

The conference started with the provoking series of ideas, as an example: “the real crisis is the quality of engagement – no the quantity of visitors.”A question to self reflection, how are we supporting to create quality of engagement in museums? Important to know our role into supporting local knowledge transmission.

The talks were excellent, the participants of the event inspiring and the museum visits enlightening.

One of the talks, was from the major of the city of Espoo when she was welcoming us to the WeeGee museum. Unfortunately, I do not have the quote of her words, but I appreciate when she transmit the idea that culture is the umbrella in which we create a community. Her speech had inspiring thoughts.

To close this post, I want to leave two photos of the temporal exposition, a clever work don by Alexander Reichsten. It is a hands on expositions for children, which adults can enjoy as well. In this space one searches in different calendars one's birthday and build a handicraft that is hang later in the central rotating tree. It is interesting to see different calendars created in our world in which one could detect one's birthday, including the Aztec calendar.

There is much to learn and discover and the day was full of relevant and important events!

Thank you!

Screenshoot fo the news

If we aim to be the best providers of knowledge and tools for contextual applications then the implication is we have to be learning constantly.

Based on the previous premise and due that ubium emerged from the research done at EdTech, it is possible to keep researching and collaborating with the University of Eastern Finland. Thanks to this association, we were in South Africa to learn from each other and search for further collaboration with South African partners.

This journey enhanced ubium's expertise on contextual learning by understanding critical activities that mobile learning experts require in the field, and ubium's technology can support them. Additionally, we got an insight into the serious games initiatives in South Africa.

The experience was rich in many dimensions despite being short. Let us share you some moments in the following photos:

Preparing tables for mobile learning activities while training teachers, part of the ICT4RED

Surroundings towards one of the schools involved in ICT4RED

A remote school that is involved into the ICT4RED

Training session in one of the ICT4RED partner schools, notice the use of digital and non-digital devices!

Some memories from the training session I was present (ICT4RED)

Unfortunatelly, I did not take more photos of the North West University at Vaal, where they are pushing the serious game initiative, but to record those moments, I can share some of the campus inhabitants. It is a BEAUTIFUL campus and they are doing an amazing work in there.

Last but not least, ubium visited Maropeng, where in adition to learn about our ancestors gain an important understanding of hands on activities in museums  from the South African perspective!  There is much to do and learn in our globe!!!

Summarizing:

  • Unquestionably, we are looking for collaboration with the region!
  • Thank you for the learning experience and thank you to my hosts overall.

We have the opportunity to power up Illuusion's posters this year.

Illuusion, is not a museum, is a Games and Music seminar that takes place just before Illosari rock festival, however there are things that can be transfered from our experience to this new areana, for example: Interactive Posters.

The idea of interactive posters have been in our mind since long. Illuusion offered us an opportunity to probe ourselves and the concept for a complete new audience that expects high standards in all what they do. In this case, the interactive posters turn to be the way to access the lotto for a mexican tequila. The motivation was to invite the audience to discover what is North Karelia doing in terms of digital games.

The result to be in Illuusion was terrific, to mention some outcomes:

- Valuable networking (taking with FanART games, QAme, Next Games, VTT, Ste Curran, Digital Works and others)

- PRECIOUS FEEDBACK of our concept and system

- Awesome good energy,

- Learning from people with outstanding vision

Ther raffle for the tequila bottle, the price of a interactive lotto,  was the last event at Illuusion.

The process to get the winner was fun and Carolina, who gave the price, got SPEECHLESS by he reaction of the winner. It was a special moment as you see on the photos below taken from Illusion's FaceBook page.

Given the Tequila bottle to the winner

Later, we find out that the winner appreciates fine alcohol. GREAT TO HEAR!!!! CONGRATULATIONS and enjoy the bottle!!!!

Additionally, he gave us constructive feedback, by coincidence, from the poster with which he won. :) THANK YOU!!! Finally, he let us know that the end was the best part of Illuusion. :)

AMAZING journey and two days!!!!

THANK YOU Illusion!!!

THANK YOU participants!!!!!

THANK YOU to the team who made this possible:
